In 2020, we’ve all experienced crazy changes in our lives. This year was full of surprises and challenges, and families and business owners have had to adapt to these changes. In 2021, it can feel like a lot of uncertainty lies ahead. One thing that we know for sure is that we need to continue to care for ourselves physically and mentally and go on with our lives with the right mentality. Although this year has had its ups and downs, beauty trends have continued to evolve and improve. In this article, we will go over some amazing up and coming beauty crazes that we think will grow in 2021:
“Skinimalism,” also known as “skip-care,” is expected to dominate 2021. Especially due to the nationwide lockdown, many people’s relationship with makeup shifted as they chose to prioritize skincare. Skinamilism embraces the simplification of makeup and skincare routines, letting consumers embrace their natural skin types through the minimal use of products to achieve a natural looking glow.
Over the past few months, women have expressed building more positive relationships with their skins at home, wearing minimal amounts of makeup on Zoom and other video platforms. For now, women are favoring glowy, natural makeup looks as opposed to more eccentric and bold ones. According to Pinterest’s 2021 ‘Pinterest Predicts Report,’ searches for how to get glowing skin have actually increased four times while searches for natural everyday makeup have increased by 180% in the past year alone.
Women are currently looking for lightweight, natural makeup products to look their best on Zoom. Besides concealers, people are turning to BB creams rather than heavy foundations. If you’re looking for a lightweight, full coverage BB cream, try theFace Republic Perfect Cover BB Cream. It’s a buildable cream, so you can post as much or as little as you want with flawless coverage. Made with natural ingredients like arbutin complex, Jojoba Seed Extract, Mushroom Extract and active botanical extracts, this BB cream helps firm your skin by treating age spots and evening out skin tones, brightens your skin by fighting off inflammation and redness, and naturally moisturizes your skin. If you want a makeup product that provides great coverage but doesn’t look like actual makeup, you should definitely check this BB cream out!
We personally love the skinimalism trend as it promotes self-love and confidence in one’s own unique skin, and we’re excited to see future innovations and changes in this movement!
It’s clear that one of the most significant events of 2020 was the arrival of COVID-19. It changed all of our lives in many different ways, one of which being the daily use of face masks. Although these masks protect us from exposure to the virus, they can also clog your pores, promote pimples, dry skin, and other irritations to the skin. Lately, this has been referred to as “maskne,” and skincare companies will most likely target this newly common issue.
Known medically as acne mechanica, “maskne” is triggered by excess friction and humidity caused by wearing a mask. We believe that people are going to start making changes to what they put on their faces and how they put them on. For example, consumers will look to purchase the best masks to prevent “maskne,” which companies will most likely start to develop. In addition, people may start wearing less makeup in order to prevent a sweaty buildup of bacteria under the mask that can lead to irritated skin and clogged pores, exacerbating acne.
We don’t know all the answers, but we do know that we are going to be wearing masks in the future. So, managing and preventing “maskne” will definitely be an ongoing task for many individuals and beauty companies.
If you’re not willing to wait for new “maskne” specific products to arise, you may want to try products that cleanse, moisturize, and detoxify your skin without clogging your pores. For example, you might want to try Aquareveal’sSatin Bright Soft Water Peel for Face, which instantly decongests clogged pores without causing any irritation, leaving your skin feeling instantly smoother and looking instantly brighter.
Home Gadgets for Facials
Although many self-care businesses across the US have reopened, it’s clear that most personal care experiences will have to change, especially the facial. Facials include a lot of physical contact and are usually carried out in tight indoor spaces with little ventilation. It’s understandable why consumers are hesitant to get facials in our current situation, which is why we believe that at-home facial gadgets will become more prevalent in 2021. Even though most people aren’t aestheticians, these gadgets would actually help people to get reacquainted with their skin and understand how to treat it more effectively.
There are actually many cool gadgets that are already gaining popularity among consumers: LED light therapy face masks, vibrating facial massage tools EGF (epidermal growth factor), microneedling and ion infusion kits, and other innovative facial products. Overall, we strongly believe that these high-tech gadgets will revolutionize our at-home facial experiences for the better!
I know these high-tech gadgets can seem a little fishy to some, so I decided to go on Amazon and see if they were really worth the hype. Specifically, I looked atLED Light Therapy Facial Care Masks, which had many ratings. Interestingly, most customers seemed to really like the mask. For the most part, people are loving the product for improving skin conditions, while also being affordable and easily accessible. Especially with spas and other places that offer facials closing, people seem to think that these products are effective substitutes. From the reviews, people are also noticing their skin becoming smoother, rejuvenated, and clearer. So, I think we can safely say that these products are flourishing and will probably grow in relevance this year!
As the pandemic continues to affect regions around the world, people have renewed their interest in health and wellness, including clean beauty. Specifically, people are becoming more conscious about what is being put in and on their bodies. As a result, companies are aiming to expand their clean beauty options and educate consumers on how and why switching to clean beauty is so important. There’s a variety of ways businesses are trying to display this clean beauty mindset, the foremost of which being through sustainable packaging, the usage of natural ingredients and clean formulation, and being vegan and cruelty-free.
Men’s Beauty Products
Recently, companies have been trying to create more beauty products for men that promote clean and green skincare, empower self-care, and evolve masculinity, including male-focused makeup. Men’s beauty continues to pose challenges, but now that companies are offering more choices and focusing on more male issues, men are able to express themselves more freely.
Beauty and cosmetics are still mainly directed toward women. However, we think that in 2021, we will start seeing genderless and male-specific makeup and skin products. Especially with more people using Zoom and other video chat applications, men are constantly put in front of the camera and care about how they look on a personal and professional level. It’s important that men are given more gender-specific products because anatomically, their bodies are different from women’s; so, they should be given more focused attention.
Recently, we’ve seen more and more male beauty influencers on Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, and other social media platforms. Even though there is definitely a rise on social media, it’s still rare to see men wearing makeup out in public. South Korean men have actually led the world’s male beauty market, which comes to no surprise. Local young men in Korea are deeply inspired by K-Pop, emulating the look of famous Korean idols. Because K-Pop is so prevalent in the United States, with extremely popular Korean idols like BTS, we believe that the American male beauty market will follow suit and hopefully flourish in 2021 and beyond.
Return of Color
In the late summer and early fall, we predict the return of color in beauty. For the majority of quarantine, people have been wearing less makeup, focusing on more natural makeup looks. However, now that the vaccine is out, and hopefully if the virus dies down by the end of this year, more people will be going out and experimenting more with makeup. For this reason, we believe that people are going to continue their natural makeup looks, but with a bold touch. For instance, maybe a bold lip color or a bold eye shadow.
In addition, we think that people will start wearing bolder nail colors. Recently, we’ve seen a lot of neutral colored nails, but we think this will change in the fall.
As for hair, we think that people will want to maintain natural hair colors, but make their hair colors lighter completely or with highlights. We also think that people won’t want a hair color that they would have to constantly maintain, which would be difficult during COVID-19. A natural hair look like the following is what we believe will be super trendy and comfortable in the fall of 2021!
...and that wraps up our 2021 beauty trend predictions! After such a whirlwind year, we are excited to see these trends grow and evolve and hope for the appearance of more innovative beauty products. What beauty trend are you most excited for? We would love to hear from you! Let us know what you would like to see from us in 2021.
