The Perfect Pre/Post Workout Skin Routine

The Perfect Pre/Post Workout Skin Routine

As we all know, exercise is one of the best ways to improve your health. It should benefit every part of your body, including your skin. What many people don’t realize is that washing your skin before and after your workout is extremely important. We get it, it’s already hectic enough to fit a workout routine into your busy schedules, but luckily, we have some effective and easy tips to help you take care of your skin before and after your workouts.

Pre-Workout

  • Clean your face
  • You may be thinking this: why clean your face right when you're about to sweat and get dirty again? Well, here’s your answer: the body heat from working out will open up your pores, allowing dirt, oil, or makeup to settle in them. It’s crucial to let your skin breathe!! I suggest using a gentle cleanser or micellar water. Micellar water is a great cleansing option that doesn’t have to be washed off, making it convenient for people on the go. So, you can just toss it into your gym bag or in a locker, and use it anytime you're about to begin a workout.

  • Use a facial mist or toner
  • This isn’t a necessary step, but it’s always good to hydrate your skin, especially before a workout. It can also be a refreshing way to boost your energy and get you motivated.

  • Moisturize! (Or if you're going outdoors, use SPF!)
  • This step is highly recommended, though it is a personal preference. If you’re worried about clogging your pores but still want to leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated, opt for a water-based moisturizer. These lightweight moisturizers glide on your skin easily and can be quickly absorbed. If you’re going to be exercising outdoors, however, make sure tofollow up your moisturizer with a broad-spectrum sunscreen formulated with an SPF of at least 30.

    Post-Workout

  • Use a cleanser
  • When you’re done working out, it is important to make sure that bacteria and sweat residue aren’t lingering on your skin. I suggest using a gentle cleanser that will wash away the oils and bacteria without irritating your skin, considering your skin is more sensitive after you work out. Pro tip: if you have dry skin, a milky cleanser may be worth trying.

  • Use a Water Peel
  • Water peels aren’t commonly used in skincare routines, but we highly recommend it. It is one of the BEST treatments in dermatology in Korea--and for a very good reason. When you exfoliate your skin with water peels, you decongest clogged pores without causing irritation. You will actually notice an instant difference in your skin. Water peels are a great first step to your skin routine because they are clinically proven to absorb more of any other skin products you use in your regime. Try the AquarevealSatin Bright Soft Water Peel for Face. It has amazing benefits and is one of the only clinically tested peels on the market!

  • Use a face mist or toner
  • Calm your skin down with a face mist or toning spray. Make sure when you do this, you are extremely gentle.

  • Apply a gentle serum, gel, or moisturizer (it’s your choice!)
  • People have different preferences for this step, but I strongly recommend you use at least one of these options. A gentle serum after a workout can help with redness and blemishes, leaving your skin glowing. If you’re going to use a gel or moisturizer, make sure it is a lightweight one that reduces redness, tightens your pores, and perfectly balances your skin.

Now that you know how to treat your skin before and after a workout, you can confidently sweat it out without worrying about the effects it will have on your skin. You can be proud of yourself for working out while also taking pride in your fabulous, glowing skin!!
